Operate a 1.5 Tonne Excavator

While many operators of excavators still consider mini excavators as toys, many contractors recognize the benefits of using a 5, 3 and 1.5 tonne excavators. Mini excavators are very efficient in most situations where a large amount of digging is not required. Faster and easier than hand digging and large excavators, mini excavators benefit from their ability to access very narrow spaces and operate wherever large excavators can not. This particular machine is most commonly used for trenching and digging in yards, but are quite efficient lifting solution for some construction companies.

Steps

  1. Mini excavators are used for digging through earth and trenching, but when it comes to operating, it is little confusing because of the different controls. However, if you have excavator experience, you only need to read through the owner's manual on how to operate your 1.5 tonne excavator. Manufacturers always provide a manual with the purchase of the machine, but if you didn't get one, here are few tips on operating a machinery like this.
  2. Mini excavators have two joysticks, one for moving the machine and one for moving the bucket, the boom or any other attachment. To start moving, you need to push both joysticks, while to travel in reverse, you need to pull both levers backwards. When the left joystick is placed to its neutral position, the attachment will also not move. With few years of experience, you will learn how to do this most efficiently. Using the joysticks of a 1.5 tonne excavator is simple and easy. Mini excavators usually use a bucket and controlling it is easy, but it requires some knowledge and experience.
  3. Once you are ready to start operating, set the stabilizers (stabilizing legs) down, if available. But this type of machine usually do not deal with heavy and threatening loads, so stabilizers are not included. Like any excavator, the 1.5 tonne excavator has also two foot pedals. One of the two foot pedals speeds up the movement of your machine, while the other is used to pivot the bucket of your excavator.
  4. To extend the boom you need to move the right joystick forward and to bowl in/out the bucket, you need to move the joystick to left/right. To pull the boom back to your 1.5 tonne excavator, move the joystick towards you. With these tips, you will be definitely ready to operate a 1.5 tonne excavator. Years of operating will give you the experience you need to perform your tasks with confidence.
