Prepare Russian Salad

Russian salad is a very tasty mixture of mayonnaise, ham, boiled potatoes and other vegetables. It's particularly suitable for eating during winter.

Ingredients

Steps

  1. Boil the potatoes and carrots. Drain thoroughly and dice them into small pieces.
  2. Dice the ham or salami and put it in the bowl too.
  3. Take the gherkins and try to squeeze the water from them as much as you can without actually smashing them.
  4. Dice the gherkins and add to the mixture in the bowl.
  5. Put the peas in the bowl too, but be careful not to add too much.
  6. Add mayonnaise and stir very well until you have a very even mixture.
  7. Boil the eggs and after that grate them into tiny pieces. Sprinkle the eggs over the mixture and the salad is ready.
  8. Add salt but not too much, the gherkins will be salty enough.
  9. Leave in the bowl and put in a fridge for about 30 minutes.
  10. Serve by making scoops of the mixture and arranging them in a long plate. They usually go in sets of three scoops.

Tips

  • It is also great as a garnish for any type of meat, especially chicken.
  • Russian Salad is mostly consumed during winter because mayonnaise can go bad.
  • You can decorate the salad with olives, parsley or sliced gherkins.
  • You could add a bit of freshly squeezed lemon juice to improve the taste and make the greasiness of the mayonnaise more smooth.

Warnings

  • Do not add too much salt. The gherkins are salty enough and the salad will become inedible.
  • Wear oven mitts when handling hot items.
