Steps
Nine slices of ham sandwich
- Choose two slices of your favorite type of bread or any bread that you have at the moment.
- Toast the bread in a toaster. Toast until the bread is slightly brown. (Optional)
- Spread mayonnaise generously on one slice of the toast.
- Place three thin tomato slices, slightly overlapping, on the slice on which you spread the mayonnaise. If you don't like tomatoes, simply use ketchup. If you also don't like ketchup, then you can use nothing.
- Place a lot of large romaine lettuce leaves over the tomato slices.
- Place the nine slices of ham over the lettuce.
- Place a slice of your favorite cheese over the ham.
- Spread additional mayonnaise on the second slice of toast. Complete the sandwich by placing the top slice on.
- Slice the sandwich diagonally. Use sandwich toothpicks to hold the sandwich halves together.
- Serve with french fries, a dill pickle spear and a glass of Coca-Cola.
- Done––your ham sandwich is completed. Start over if you are still hungry!
Two slices of ham sandwich
- Take two slices of your favorite bread. Wheat, white, rye, and others work well.
- Put mustard on the bottom slice of bread, and mayo on the top slice.
- Choose your cheese for the sandwich.
- For one slice of cheese, carefully center it on the bread
- For two, lay one slice so it overlaps the left edge of the bottom slice of bread. Put the second slightly overlapping the first.
- Lay tomatoes in the same manner as the cheese, depending on if you want one or two slices.
- Put a few leaves of lettuce on top of the tomatoes, making sure it hangs off all four edges of the sandwich.
- Lay two slices of thin ham on top of the lettuce. Gently fold the ham in half and lay them next to each other.
- Lay the slice of bread with mustard on top of the sandwich, finishing it off.
- Serve the sandwich on a medium sized plate. Serve with chips and a drink of your choice.
- Finished.
Tips
- Cheddar, Swiss, and Provolone cheeses all taste great in a ham sandwich.
- Don't microwave mayonnaise.
- Adding other types of meat to your "ham" sandwich could make it taste better.
- The clerk at your local deli can slice the ham as thin or as thick as you like. Experiment with several thin slices or a few thick slices to see which tastes best to you.
- Try putting your entire finished sandwich in the toaster oven for just a minute or two to melt the cheese.
- Variation: Substitute pastrami for the meat and rye for the bread.
- If you choose not to put a toothpick in, you can slice it in half diagonally, making sure the halves are equal.
