Prepare a Flaxseed Smoothie

Flaxseed is one of those superfoods foods we all should eat daily, but it's not a common ingredient in many recipes. Flaxseed is an excellent source of omega acids.[1] It can simply be eaten raw (try sprinkling it on a salad for texture). Don't cook it over 180ºC / 350ºF, though, or the nutritional benefits will begin to degrade.

Here is a smoothie that incorporates flaxseed, a very tasty way to sneak it in every morning. For extra calories a slice of whole wheat bread with natural peanut butter is a great nutritional boost.

Ingredients

  • 5 Wash Berries (any fruit that is handy; strawberries, for example). You can substitute other acid fruits, if you prefer.
  • 4 teaspoons of yogurt
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 1/4 cup of ground flaxseed
  • 1 generous tablespoon of brown sugar

Banana Variation

  • 5 Wash Berries (any fruit that is handy; strawberries, for example). You can substitute other fruits, if you prefer.
  • 1 banana
  • 1 scoop of Protein Powder and/or 4 teaspoons of yogurt
  • 1/2 cup of milk or Coconut water
  • 1/4 cup of flaxseed

Steps

  1. Mix all the ingredients in the order given above. Use a small to medium sized bowl and mix with a dessert spoon, or similar.
  2. Pour the mixture into the blender. Blend all the ingredients together at high speed in a blender.
  3. Serve immediately. Garnish with a mint leaf or similar if wished.
