Putting a Spray in Liner in a Pickup Truck Bed

A sprayed in bed liner can make your truck look new again and they also can be safer for your cargo. It will protect it for years and the best part about is that you can do it at home. You don't need to take it to a shop where they will charge you $500 and a week or more at the shop to do the job.

Steps

  1. Remove all tie downs, hoops, hooks, and straps from your truck's bed.
  2. Give your bed a thorough cleaning. Wet, scrub, rinse, and dry.
  3. Tape off the truck bed. Add plastic masking film or masking paper to protect the rest of your car.
  4. Sand. Use a sanding sponge or sand paper to get into all ridges and corners.
  5. Use the air compressor to blow all the sanded bits out of the bed. If not, a broom or cloth will work. Make sure the bed has a clean surface free from sanding dust.
  6. Measure and mix the resin, pigment, and catalyst. Follow the manufacturer's directions on the kit you choose to buy.
  7. Clean the spray gun and lines if you can. Getting a clean spray will ensure a more even and level surface.
  8. Put on your body suit, respirator, goggles, and gloves. The bed liner is not easy to get off your skin, hair, and eyes. Proper preparation is the easiest way to keep it off.
  9. Apply the bonding agent if you have chosen to use one. It is never a bad idea. It dries in a few minutes and it promotes a good seal between the truck bed and the liner spray.
  10. Apply the liner with lots of thin coats. Make multiple passes waiting however number of minutes between coats based off the manufacturers recommendations. Make multiple passes until the recommended coat is achieved.
    • If using a brush on application then take a brush and use it.
  11. Let the liner has been dry for a few minutes. Then it is safe to remove the tape.
  12. Re-attach any racks, bolts, or other accessories you took off before.

Tips

  • Any blemishes can be touched up with a black paint marker. * Preparation is paramount.
  • It is very easy to touch the still wet liner and make a nice and ugly mark.
  • Make sure you take your time. The stuff can get everywhere if you're not paying attention fully.

Warnings

  • Use a respirator! Some of the ingredients can be harmful to breath
