Make Your Moped Faster and Run Better
Make your moped faster by keeping it in great shape and clearing away any "cobwebs".
Steps
- Check the exhaust if the moped is running sluggish. It might be filled with carbon residue. De-carbonizing it might increase the speed and power and it might even get you a {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} boost.
- Remove the exhaust pipe.
- Remove the muffler.
- Loosen the clamp that connects the muffler to the exhaust.
- Use a wire brush and clean out the inside of the muffler and exhaust. Make sure there aren't any clogs.
- Take off the muffler and shake it to get any remaining residue out.
- Check all carbon lines and connections, gas clamps and hoses as well as trying a less oilier mixture.
Tips
- If nothing works also try to clean out your filters
- If it's barely starting clean the carbon, it's not worth check for spark. Your spark plug might be weak.
- If this doesn't work try cleaning out the carburetor and checking to make sure none of your brakes are rubbing.
- A slightly dangerous way (use outside and at your own risk) to de-carbonize the muffler is to pour some diesel or paraffin into it and shake to coat internals. Put a piece of paper in the opening and let it soak. Set it on fire. Now add a small stream of oxygen from an oxygen/acetylene torch for a few minutes. This helps the carbon burn.
- If all fails, look up a manual on-line or look in yours in the troubleshooting section
Warnings
- Don't touch the exhaust pipe or any other metal parts until they have had plenty of time to cool since the last time the bike was turned on.
- Make sure that the carburetor is completely on the intake coming from cylinder properly, block free, airtight and secure!
- Don't lose any pieces to the carburetor
