Row Like an Olympian

Steps

  1. You must be prepared to sacrifice quite a lot of your time to become an amazing rower. It doesn't just come overnight. If you really want to row like an Olympian you have to be prepared for cold outings, lots and lots of training to become fit and strong. You must be able to take more pain then the opposition. Before reading this, ask yourself : Am I ready?
  2. You must perfect your technique. At backstops, you need to sit with your knees flat with your arms in front of your second rib. Then roll your hands away, rock your body over, bring your knees up till the shins are vertical. Your blades should have been squared fairly early to allow a quick catch. To become an Olympian, you must join a club or just hire a coach to look at your technique and listen carefully to their advice. No matter how good you are, you can still improve your technique to speed your rowing up.
  3. You must become strong and tough mentally. Training for rowing will be a true test of character. It will hurt something awful but to become an Olympian you must steel yourself up. It will improve your character and mental attitude as a person. You must be prepared to put the hours in to become strong and fit. It will really speed up the boat if you look and feel like an athlete.
  4. Finally you must enjoy the sport as this will allow you to do more and more of it; practice makes perfect! There's no point doing it if you're forcing yourself to. Enjoy it anyway you want: the results you win with gold and trophies, the effects it has on your physique or just the beauty of the sport. The main thing into becoming an Olympian is to just enjoy it!
