Track Stand
The track stand is a simple, yet impressive, mountain biking trick that can also be performed on a road or hybrid bike. This easy manoeuvre for some people might take one month and for others one day. Depends on how 'bike-savvy' you are. When you master the track stand it will be very helpful on the mountain biking track or where ever you want to use it.
Steps
- Put your bike saddle in a lower than normal position.
- Roll up to your desired place in a standing position.
- Come to a stop with both brakes. Your strong foot should be on the forward pedal while turning the front wheel on a forty five degree angle towards your front foot.
- Balance by tweaking the brakes and moving the front wheel slightly.
- Roll out of the track stand by releasing the brakes and pedalling forwards.
- Practice this trick until you can hold the track stand for about 4 seconds and be able to roll out of it. Then you have mastered the track stand!
Tips
- It is good to practice this trick on an incline or by rolling up to a curb.
- If you can't get this trick first, try again, don't worry it takes practice.
- Always wear the proper protective gear in case of an accident.
- Don't wear your best bike shoes while practicing this trick because if you think you're going to stack you can jump off quicker.
Warnings
- Always wear the right protective gear. Helmets are not just for kids!
- Avoid practising on the street but if necessary make sure there are no cars coming.
