What were the major occupations of Indus people?

The main occupation of the Indus valley people was agriculture. The most important crops like wheat rice, barely and cotton were generally cultivated. Vegetables and fruits were also grown in abundance. Animals like bull, sheep, elephant, pig, buffalo and the camel were domesticated.

Pottery was an important industry. Trade by sea and land were carried with foreign countries like Sumer, Babylonia and Egypt. Gold, silver and precious stones were produced by the jewelers.

Though the Indus Valley people had not discovered iron because it wasn't found in that area, still the weapons, utensils, coins, ornaments and other articles were made form lead, tin, bronze, silver and gold.
