Win a Slow Cycling Race

Steps

Before the Race

  1. Practice. This is the key to success. So practice every day to cycle as slow as you can without falling down.
  2. Prep the bike. Maybe a day before the race, pump up your bike, clean it and if possible, give it for a full service. You want the bike to look good when you win with it, now don't you?

Right Before the Race

  1. Have a gear cycle. Before the race starts, ride the bike for some time and also change the gear setting to the first gear in front and the first gear at the back. Due to the working of the gears, during the race you will be required to apply less effort and you will move much slower.

During the race

  1. Sit properly. When you start pedaling, make sure that your body posture is appropriate. For the best result, your elbows and back should be straight as to reduce the aerodynamic shape so that wind resistance is higher.
  2. Leave the gear setting as it is. If you have a gear cycle, as tempting as it may seem to fiddle with the gears, just remain calm and leave them at the 1x1 setting.
  3. Breathe in and breathe out systematically. Don't be nervous. Just relax and imagine yourself cycling in a park. And make sure that you maintain your balance and make it to the finish line.

After the race

  1. Congratulate the other competitors. It doesn't matter who won the race, it is common courtesy to tell the others that it was a good race.

Tips

  • Just be cool. Even if you don't win the race, congratulate the winner and show good sportsman spirit.

Warnings

  • People in the slow cycling race tend to fall over before reaching the finish line. Sometimes they may fall on another person. Always wear the safety gear including helmet, knee pads and elbow pads while racing.
