Wipe out on a Bike Without Injuring Yourself
You lose your balance, and you're about to fall. A split second decision can save you and your bike.

Steps
- Try to put your foot out, to prevent falling.
- Wear protective gear. Because if you do fall you won't get too hurt. So you can use a helmet (which you should always have), elbow pads, knee pads, and any other padding.
- Hit the brakes, if at a low speed.
- If the bike isn't a brand new expensive bike, ghost-ride it. Just remove yourself from the bike before it crashes.
- Wear a helmet.
- Before ditching the bike try to steer it onto grass, loose dirt, or water since then it may not damage the bike as much
- If there are brakes on the bike, go on grass, mud, or sand and turn sharply while hitting the back brakes. This will cause the bike to drift and if you lean enough, it will slide on its side to a quick stop.
- Never slam on front brakes. This will cause you and your bike to flip.
- If crashing is unavoidable, fall to one side and break impact with hands. Choose a direction that is clear of traffic, if you can.
Tips
- If you have a backpack or other hard objects on try to roll onto them once you go down. Twisting onto your bike, helmet, and a backpack can prevent any large injuries.
- If you can not avoid the crash, try to land in grass or mud.
- If you are younger make sure you have adult supervision if you are on the street or somewhere else.
Warnings
- Motorized bikes and chopper bikes are terrible to wipe out on.
- Don't ghost ride a bike in a crowded area.
- Never ride on the road unless you have to. When you do make sure you look both ways before moving on!
- Sometimes you can't help getting injured if you have a serious crash
