Add Your Work Email to Your iPhone

This article teaches you how to configure your iPhone, so you can check your work email using the Apple Mail app.

Steps

Using Microsoft Exchange

  1. Open Settings. It's a gray app that contains gears (⚙️) and is typically located on your home screen.
  2. Scroll down and tap Mail. It's next to a blue icon that contains the image of a white, sealed envelope.
  3. Tap Accounts. It's at the top of the menu.
  4. Tap Add Account. It's at the bottom of the first section.
  5. Tap Exchange. It's near the top of the account options.
    • Exchange is one of the most common enterprise email servers, so chances are your business uses Exchange if you aren't sure.
    • You won't be able to tell if you use Exchange by looking at your email address.
  6. Enter your email address. Enter the email address for the account you want to add to your iPhone.
    • You can also enter a description that will be used to label the account's inbox in Mail.
    • Take note of the "Exchange Device ID" displayed on the screen in the event that your employer's email administrator requires it.
  7. Tap Next. It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  8. Enter your password. Enter the password associated with your email address.
  9. Tap Next. It's in the upper-right corner of the screen.
  10. Follow onscreen prompts. Depending on the account type, you may be asked to update security settings or to give the Mail app permission to access your account. If so, tap Allow.
  11. Slide "Mail" to the "On" position. It's at the top of the menu and will turn green.
    • Slide other types of data, like Calendars and Contacts, to the "On" (green) position to merge them onto your iPhone, as well.
  12. Tap Save. It's in the upper-right corner of the screen. Now you can send emails from your account using your iPhone's Mail app.
    • You can find the inbox for this account on the "Mailboxes" screen.

Using Other Emai Services

  1. Open Settings. It's a gray app that contains gears (⚙️) and is typically located on your home screen.
  2. Scroll down and tap Mail. It's next to a blue icon that contains the image of a white, sealed envelope.
  3. Tap Accounts. It's at the top of the menu.
  4. Tap Add Account. It's at the bottom of the first section.
  5. Tap Other. It's at the bottom of the account options.
    • This option allows you to enter the settings for a custom mail server, like POP, SMTP, or IMAP information.
  6. Tap Add Mail Account. It's at the top of the screen, under "MAIL".
  7. Enter your name. Type it as you want it displayed on outgoing messages.
  8. Enter your email address. Enter the email address for the account you want to add to your iPhone.
  9. Enter your password. Enter the password associated with your email address.
    • You can also enter a description that will be used to label the account's inbox in Mail.
  10. Tap Next. It's In the upper-right corner of the screen.
  11. Choose the type of mail server. Do so by tapping either the IMAP or POP tab at the top of the screen.
    • If you don't know the information that is needed to fill in the fields on this screen, you should be able to obtain it from your employer's email administrator.
  12. Enter a Host Name. Type it in the labeled field in the "INCOMING MAIL SERVER" section.
  13. Enter a User Name. This is typically the portion of the email address that comes before the "@" symbol.
  14. Enter a Host Name. Type it in the labeled field in the "OUTGOING MAIL SERVER" section.
    • Enter your User Name and Password in this section, as well, if your email administrator requires it.
  15. Tap Save. It's in the upper-right corner of the screen. Now you can send emails from your account using your iPhone's Mail app.
    • You can find the inbox for this account on the "Mailboxes" screen.
