Steps

  1. Have a cool layout. No babyish things, or glittery posters. Keep it clean, and choose a layout that looks good. HTML is the best thing you could do. If you don't know HTML, just use the built in profile edit that Myspace provides yo.; that's your best bet.
  2. Get as many friends as possible, you won't be popular if you have single digit friends.
  3. Join vanity groups, especially VIP.
  4. Have an original display name and URL. Make a simple and classy name. Try to avoid names with hearts, x's, ~ and all that good stuff. If your name is Angie, call yourself Angie Angel. If your name is Jo, you could call yourself the Joker.
  5. Do not fill your profile page with 'i love ____ so much, she/he means so much to me' etc. We want to know about you, not your boyfriend.
  6. Don't post too many bulletins, especially chain bulletins.
  7. Take high quality pictures. Grab a friend and take some pics with you also Or maybe add a picture of you at the beach. People will love to see your personality, and the best way to do this is through your pictures.
  8. Be confident but not too cocky.
  9. Have a good about me. Talk about yourself, and what kinds of things you like to do. Don't make it boring. eg: Hi. I'm Bob and I'm in the ninth grade.
  10. Try having a mix of obscure bands on your list, so people can relate.
  11. Have a song you like, and make sure you put of things that show your personality!
  12. Join a power support which can be found on AIM.
  13. Ask people to support you.
  14. Add contest sites and enter your picture in them.
  15. Join train websites for more friends.

Tips

  • Don't make friends with people online that you don't know.
  • Don't give your phone number, or address, because the "hot" 19-year-old that you think you just saw might just turn out to be an ugly 40-year-old that you don't even want to see.
  • Be unique and true to yourself
  • Talk to everyone.
  • Remember, do know that the more haters you have, the more popular you are.
  • When people talk bad about you or send hate mail. Learn how to use print screen. That way you can save their comment/message as a picture and you can upload it to a photo album just for your hate mail. You can do the same for your an mail.
  • If you have issues trying to figure this all out, ask a few friendly Myspacers.
  • Try to be unique Don't copy others. Unless the situation calls for it! I mean- if that other popular Myspacer has hard-core jeans and a Mohawk, with a video on her page of her bashing her head into a wall to show that her interwebz is serious business, then why can't I?!

Warnings

  • Never add a friend you don't know in real life. You'd basically be asking to get stalked by a child predator or pedophile.
  • Never give out personal information. You do not know who you are talking to.
  • A lot of people set scams. Do not be fooled by Myspace users.
  • Add people you think are safe you don't want them stealing your pictures or leaving nasty stuff about you
  • Like pages that say: "you must log in to do that." And doesn't say "myspacelogin" in the address bar.
  • Don't spend a TON of time on Myspace. For all we know, Myspace could just be another fad, you don't want to look back, and see how much time you missed out on having fun with friends or family, when you're decorating your Myspace page. You may get your computer taken away because of that.
  • Myspace tends to be a haven for no-good people. Always be careful of those you meet, even if you think you know them well enough. Never meet people in person if you aren't completely sure it is going to be okay, and always go with someone else, preferably older than you.
