Be a Unique Scene Kid

Want to be a scene kid but don't want to be common? Here are some cool tips for your wish of being a unique kid.

Steps

  1. Realize that this will take some time. When you have decided you want to be a scene kid, gradually get there. It may take a long time to get to your standards. If you do it all in one day, you may be labelled as a poser.
  2. Start with an attitude. A common scene kid is normally bold, and likes attention. Maybe you could twist it by being quieter and sweeter. A normal scene kid is bubbly, you have to be bubbly as well, but you could also twist it by being very serious at times. Try not to act sad as you could get called an emo kid, and you do not want that. Take a couple of weeks or more to get to this stage.
  3. Listen to music. A common scene kid will listen to anything. Pop-Punk, Hardcore, Rock, even at-Country.
  4. Get some outfits. Don't skip to hair first, as if you are a prep, this will look very odd. Most scene kids wear any bright color and black. You could base yours on one colour EG: Hot pink or neon green. Get as many items as you can of this colour, and also get some accessories that are a different colour to stand out. Most kids wear studded belts; black, really dark blue, gray or brightly colored skinny jeans are good too. Don't forget color isn't everything. Check out what other scene kids wear. Some scene kids wear fashionable pink wigs and stylish outfits, some wear vintage, and others just wear whatever they want.
  5. Gradually get the hair. Start off with very soft layers, then sharper layers, then get choppier layers etc. Also, fringe bangs are very popular amongst scene kids. Get these gradually, so as not to be labeled a poser. Only get these if you have the right head shape, though. Very important - You must dye it. If you have problems with your hair such as alopecia , then try not to tease so much and use heat protectant before you straighten your hair. The normal colours are platinum blonde and brown/ black/ neon. Try going for a completely different colour like a shade of red with black etc. Make sure most of the colours of your clothes won't affect your hair colour. Try to see if it will work first. Also, go for highlights in neon colours, or a colour opposite of your hair colour base. Make it stand out!
  6. BE YOURSELF. The most important part of being a scene kid is being an original and not a follower. To be a Scene kid is to be a leader. Remember no matter what that you are you and that you have to like who you are.

Tips

  • Be yourself!
  • Shoes-slip on Vans or Converse All-Star and ballet flats are extremely common.
  • Accessories- Layered necklaces in the same range colours are quite common. Go to Claire's and buy loads of different coloured beads. Also get loads of jelly bangles and wear them all at once. A good place for them is Blue Banana [UK/ Internet Order for people anywhere else] and they are 75p for a set of 12. Get 3 or more sets.
  • Get a unique name. Not Kiki Kannibal, Dakota Rose, HannaBeth, Blair Ravish, Matthew Lush or anything that's already taken.
  • Summer- Not many common scene kids wear flip flops. If you want to, get some from the Animal/ Freespirit shop. Also some shorts, and pair them with a Tee of your choice and accessories. This will look very good and individual.
  • Hoodies- White, pink, black anything will go! Some patterns (like BAPE) The possibilities are endless!
  • Skirts- Wear them with tights/legwarmers . Have tutu skirts, denim skirts, mini skirts.
  • Jeans- skinny jeans are main, but you can also wear capris,etc.. Get some black/ blue/gray normal coloured jeans, and then loads of vivid colours. Pink, green, zebra print, checkered... anything unique will do!
  • Winter wear- coats. Get a bomber jacket or a fur-rimmed one. Scarfs- get a desert scarf, a good-quality, thick one. Gloves, maybe fingerless plain black ones.
  • Look at scene queens for ideas on how to look.
  • Nike High tops are pretty cool with skinny jeans too, but they can't look too preppy.
  • T-Shirts/ tanks- some patterned/ band t's, graphic tees, some plain. Go for plain if you want your necklaces to stand out. Babycakes, Dropdead, Kiki Kannibal are all good places to purchase jewelry and clothing. And patterned/ band t's if you don't have any/ fewer necklaces/ accessories on. You can also wear shirts with the American eagle logo on it occasionally so you won't seem like such a scene poser. this will also add a little variety to your wardrobe and make your outfits more interesting.

  • Take up to a year to do this, or more. If you change within one week, you will get called a poser/ wannabe.
  • Don't tell people you're scene. You will get called a wannabe/ poser.
  • When it comes to dyeing your hair, make sure your hair is in good condition. If your hair is dry, consider doing some hot oil treatments for a few weeks beforehand, so your hair doesn't get damaged from the dye.
