Convince Your Mom to Let You Get Highlights
If you really want highlights and your mom keeps saying no, here are some tips to convince her to say yes.

Steps
- Be really nice and helpful to her and help her do housework. Help your sister or brother with homework (if you have siblings), so she knows you're responsible enough to handle stuff like that.
- Make sure you really want highlights and that it's not just something you want because your friends have them. Speak with your mom before you go to the salon/drugstore to find the color scheme that looks best.
- Saying things like, "Mom, I'm only a kid once, just let me enjoy my time and get what I want" does not make you sound wise. They make you sound selfish and childish and will only persuade your mom to wait longer until you are a bit more mature.
- Be aware of the cost. If the highlights at the salon are way too expensive, think about going to a drugstore and getting the kind in the bottle. This will cost a lot less.
- If your mom has dyed her hair, you could try saying - "Mom, please. You like "your" highlights, don't you?"
- Make sure your grades are up before asking. Chances are, if you don't have good grades, the answer will probably be no. If you are lucky, you mom will say yes.
- Be sure to do research before asking.
Tips
- Talk with her about what colors would be acceptable and what would not. Ask her to come to the salon/drugstore with you - see if she'd like to dye her hair at the same time - make it something fun for the two of you.
- No matter what color hair you have, go no more than three shades darker or lighter than you natural color the first time.
- Offer to pay for them yourself. Highlights are very expensive, and this is probably a big reason why you're not allowed.
- If she says 'no' more than three times, stop bothering her or you may have no hope of getting them at a later time.
- Start off with natural highlights first.
- Make sure to prove to her that you are responsible. Keep your room clean and take care of yourself.
- Have patience. Your mom doesn't want pressure, keep it slow and steady.
- If you normally have an attitude, try to behave e for a week or two.
- Go for a natural color like red, brown, black, or blonde if you are young.. A trend that is starting is called 'frosting'. You can add subtle blonde highlights to your dark hair.
- If she keeps saying no, then ask her politely why not. There could be a specific reason for her saying no.
Warnings
- Make sure your hair is actually suitable for highlights, some hair can be ruined by dying it!
- Don't tell her, "But all my friends do it!"
- Make sure it's what you really want or you may regret your decision!
- Don't ever be convinced to do something because of what your friends say.
