Begin the Day Productively

Do you ever feel too many days never get off to a good start? Well, here are some tips to help start your day well.

Steps

  1. Don't overdo the night before. Keep the night simple and normal. 2-3 hours before you sleep, don't go on your phone or your laptop and just relax your eyes and loosen up the mood.
  2. Practice good sleep habits -- disconnect electronics, get at least 8 and a half hours of sleep and keep the bedroom for sex and sleep.
  3. Lay out your clothes for the morning and make sure all are clean and ready to wear. Pack your briefcase or purse, charge your electronics. That way, you won't curse when you don't know what to wear or if your phone does not have any battery.
  4. Make a list of what you have to do the next day,(including things to take with you) then forget about it while you go to sleep. Indulge in a sleep ritual that makes you sleepy: reading, meditating or a bath.
  5. In the morning, give yourself plenty of time. While still under the covers, move around to get any creaky joints moving. Stretch and breathe deeply to get rid of cobwebs in your brain.
  6. Get up and get some exercise first thing in the morning for at least 15 minutes. It helps you feel great and improves your mood. You might want to wake up earlier by 20 minutes than usual if you would like to follow this step.
  7. Eat a Make a Healthy Breakfast at home (cheaper and more nutritious). Coffee or tea is fine, but add a glass of plain water to get you hydrated.
  8. If you like music, crank up some energizing tunes in your ear buds while you dress. (Others may still be asleep.)
  9. Make your bed as soon as you get out of it -- that signals the day has started.
  10. Check the previous night's list to make sure you leave with everything you need.
  11. Leave the house well-groomed. It shows you have self-esteem.
  12. Leave the house with time to spare. Running five minutes early is a lot less stressful than running five minutes late.
  13. Smile and say "good morning" to people you pass on the street.
  14. Never forget to think positively and your thoughts become your actions, your actions become habits, and your habits define you.

Tips

  • If you are always running late, you create anxiety for yourself and others. Give yourself a break and get up ten minutes earlier. If you have to go to bed ten minutes earlier, that's fine.
  • If you are not a morning person, do as much as possible the night before, but not to the point that you will be even less of a morning person as you are right now.
  • Walk briskly to get your body awake and moving. Walking around sluggishly slow when getting to school lowers your chances of motivation and being on time for it.
  • Eating your breakfast outside in the morning (on your balcony, in your backyard etc.) is scientifically proven to wake you up faster and make you feel happier.

Warnings

  • Morning comes every day, so figure out what works for you and keep your routine. Give thanks for the new day*
