As many people have taken to selling their houses, cars, quitting jobs and buying RV's to travel across America, there is a very lucrative market for RV campgrounds, however having a good understanding of how campgrounds work and good business plan will place you above others in understanding how to own and operate an RV campground.

Steps

  1. Decide what type of RV campground you want. There are many types of RV campgrounds - Patios RV sites, water/electric hook up sites, or sites that don't offer water hookups, but provide public bathrooms..
  2. Come up with a suitable business plan that fits your goals and that will bring in some profitability..
  3. Present your business plan to investors or your bank.
    • This step is optional if you are going to pay for everything out of pocket. RV parks can vary from $15,000 to $50,000.
  4. Find the perfect location. Start by looking for a location with enough acres and the right surroundings. You should also include around 10 RVs per acre of land to avoid overcrowding.
  5. Design your RV park. Hire a licensed landscape architect or even purchase a RV park plan if you don’t want to design the RV park yourself.
  6. Obtain the right license and permits. Register your business with your local city to obtain a business license. You will also need to obtain construction and development permits with the city or state department.
  7. Incorporate water and electricity hookups. Incorporating utilities such as water and electricity will have RVs stay longer because of more access to crucial resources in turn creating more profit.
  8. Open up a small general store. Often times people run out of supplies having a store stocked with propane, firewood, lighter fluid and even snacks is more convenient for the customer to clients.
  9. Offer wifi. As nature gets us away from out internet desires, it's still necessary to be connected with loved ones, access to maps, and even emergency services.
  10. Create a website for the RV campground. With an online website, you can include information on the park, photos, and online reservations.
  11. Hire personnel. Having reliable workers to tackle maintenance workers gives customers the satisfaction they need, and also keeps the campgrounds clean and maintained.
  12. Advertise your business. There are plenty of ways to advertise your business for free. Start by making a social media or a youtube channel. Adding content will help your channel or social media grow, giving you free advertisement.
