Coin Stack a Nickel Spiral
You cannot buy much with a nickel these days, but you can have some fun and start a new hobby at the same time. Coin stacking is a fun hobby for kids, as well as adults. Add a jar next to your penny jar, and start saving nickels. If you're in another country, any bright, round, medium-sized coin should work.
Steps
- Grab three nickels and arrange them as shown.
- Place three more nickels, as you did in the first step, but offset them a bit, touching the one counter-clockwise away from it.
- Repeat the previous stepsnumerous times until you get the height that you desire, offsetting each one slightly.
- Enjoy your finished nickel spiral. You can build it higher, but you will need a lot more nickels, at a rate of three per layer. This one needed 72 nickels.
Tips
- A nickel is a Canadian and an American coin, with a value of five cents. It is a small- to medium-sized coin; you can substitute any similar coin of your own currency if desired. View the photos for a better idea.
- All stacks of coins can be done without any glue. Leverage and the weight of the coins provide the support.
- Try to get new nickels from the bank for a really bright spiral.
Warnings
- This can be frustrating and time consuming. Be patient.
