Cope With Being on a School Bus with Younger Kids

Some schools teach children of many ages, often from preschool to the end of high school. If you go to one of these schools, and take the school bus, then you probably have a couple of little kids on your bus. They may be annoying and frustrating, but you can learn how to deal with them. Another frustrating thing is that schools like this often have fewer students, and therefore smaller school buses (some have as few as four or five rows).

Steps

  1. Talk to the kids your age on your bus or make a group with the kids of your age or elder. They probably are just as annoyed as you, and doing something will help you tune out the little kids. Otherwise you can just sit with your group. Now you don't have to worry about the younger kids anymore!
  2. Talk to the bus driver. He or she can probably get the kids to be quiet and calm.
  3. Separate yourself from them as much as possible. Sit all the way in the back in the bus (as the little kids usually sit in the front for safety reasons).
  4. Reason with the little kids. Tell them to bring a handheld video game or to do homework on the bus.
  5. Bring an iPod/MP3 player. Stock it with a lot of songs you like. This should effectively make you stop hearing the little kids.

Tips

  • Consider requesting a bus transfer if you are the only older kid on your bus, as there must have been a mistake made if that is so.

Warnings

  • Do not shout at the kids, you will get in trouble.
  • Do not try to out-annoy them, they will think of it as a game and won't stop. It is usually best to ignore them.
