Get Rid of a Fake Date Who Is Starting to Like You
[Sometimes, you need a date for certain things, and your real girl/boyfriend is not around. So, you take a friend as a "fake" date. But what happens if the "fake" date starts to get the wrong idea, and starts to like you? Here are some instructions as to how to get out of that situation.
Steps
- Establish boundaries. Make sure that they know they are a fake, not real, date. Tell them what you want them to do, and what's inappropriate. By establishing the ground rules before the night starts, your date knows their place, and shouldn't step out of it.
- Stay away from heavy use of drugs or alcohol. These intoxicants can lower your inhibitions and could end up with you leading your date on which could result in a lot of awkwardness when they try to make a move on you. Alcohol will make you much more likely to do something you'll regret.
- Don't encourage the behavior. If it starts to seem like the other person is beginning to like you, you need to think rationally. Just laugh it off and make an excuse to leave for a couple of minute, (eg. going to the toilet), so when you get back things should have calmed down a bit. Distance yourself more and more until the behaviour stops continuing. If your date doesn't back off then you'll have to be straight up and tell them to back off.
- Talk about your partner. Just bring them up in conversations so that you're reminding your fake-date where they stand. Don't complain about your partner, talk about good things about them, what you guys have been up too. As well as that you can ask your fake-date what's going on in their love life, and try pointing them towards a different person so that they take their affection away from you.
- Just be friendly! You're probably friends already seeing as you invited them to be your fake date, so just use the same attitude as you always do with them. Don't start being flirty or unusually close to them just because they're filling in the place of your significant other.
- If you have to, leave early. Sometimes, people just don't get it. Tell him that you're tired and it's time to go home. And on the way home you can talk about what's wrong.
- If all else fails, slip away at the right moment. You can tell them later that you lost them in the crowd. It will be for the best.
Warnings
- Do not use this with real girl/boyfriends! It will only make them hate you.
