Have a Productive Day (in a Depressional Episode)

Steps

  1. Physically Get Up. As simple as it may sound, getting up may be the most challenging part. In order to get up, try setting an alarm the night prior and use the raucous sound as a way to motivate your body into jumping up out of bed.
  2. Shower and/or Wash Your Face. Showering or even merely rinsing your face may provide you with a sense of comfort and relaxation. "
  3. Brush Your Teeth. Dental hygiene is essential. After showering or washing your face, move over to the closest sink and use your preferred toothpaste to cleanse your mouth.
  4. Eat a Nutritious Breakfast. Popular in belief, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Once in the kitchen, put together a leisurely breakfast that fits your diet. Avoid consuming only coffee and attempt to eat solid food, such as toast, a bagel, or eggs.
  5. Try Simple Exercises. Exercise reduces anxiety and depression by boosting self-esteem and cognitive function. Start by performing simple cardio exercises like jumping jacks or crunches if possible. It does not have to be laborious or excruciating.
  6. Reach Out to a Friend or Family. Contacting a family or friend can build a better sense of connection and reduce the feeling of isolation. Simply send a text or shoot a phone call to a loved one.
  7. Wash Your Laundry. Nothing is quite like the feeling of fresh laundry. If your laundry has been piling up in your room, try and collect the garments and wash them. This will both allow you to complete a bothersome chore and encourage you when it’s time to change clothes.
  8. Eat a Healthy Meal. After completing the last few steps, you most likely have grown an appetite. Attempt to create a simple healthy meal at home. If you do not have the energy, take advantage of Ubereats or Doordash and have a meal delivered to your front door.
  9. Write in a Journal. Journaling is an excellent way to keep track of any emotions you’ve felt or essential details of your day. Use a journal or a simple notebook to document your day and any feelings or details you’d like to recall.
  10. Climb Into Bed. Congratulations! You’ve successfully completed a productive day.  It takes a lot of energy to do what you did, and you should be proud. Tomorrow is another day. For now, climb into bed and get a good night’s rest.
