How was Sumer established?
New people arrived in Sumer in around 5,000 B.C. With their arrival, Sumer started developing. During the initial days, they used to fish in the rivers, hunt the wild animals and birds, pick fruits from date palms for food but later on, slowly and gradually, they shifted on to farming. They dug up canals to channel river water to their fields.
As food was plentiful, the farming villages grew in large numbers and sizes. They started building houses and temples for local gods where they offered gifts to gods for taking care of their families, crops, animals etc.
