Mesopotamia civilization
The word Mesopotamia means "between rivers". It lies in Iraq. Northern Mesopotamia had mild weather. It had enough rain for crops to grow in some areas. The Southern Mesopotamia had a flat, swampy plain, built from mud that was spread by the river flood waters. This area was called Sumer. Sumer had little rain and long, hot summers.
