Install a Train Horn
Are you tired of the stock horn that you have? Do you want something louder that people will hear for sure? If you do, then this article is for you. You can purchase train horns for your vehicle. Once you buy one, all you have to do is install it.
Steps
- Purchase a train horn. Go to JB's Power Center. If you are not located near one, go online and they will ship to you.
- Proceed to your local hardware store to buy mounting material for your train horn.
- Mark the holes. Put the horn on the upper rad support using self-tapping screws. Indicate where you want the holes by holding the train horn up to the upper rad support and mark where you want to drill into.
- Drill-out your holes. Go ahead and drill the self-tapping screws into the upper rad support where you previously marked your holes.
- Make the wiring ready for your train horn from your vehicle. Connect the train horn to the horn relay because then you can run it directly from your horn to your steering wheel.
- Wire the train horn into your vehicle. Tap into the factory horn wiring harness and wire the negative wire (black wire) to a solid ground point under the hood. The positive wire (red wire) will go to the positive wire in the train horn wiring harness.
- Hook up the air horn. Attach the air hose from the air compressor to the train horn.
- Test it out. Go ahead and test your horn once you have completed all the above steps.
Tips
- Train horns do not come with mounting material. This is because you can mount the train horn in multiple places.
- The cost of train horns can range anywhere from US$130.00-$1000.00. Decide how much you are planning to spend.
- The only hardware that you will need is self-tapping screws that are approximately 7/16th and 2-5 feet of electrical wire.
Warnings
- You are dealing with electricity, so when you are wiring the train horn, proceed with caution when doing so.
