- 2 Tablespoons Flour
- 2 teaspoons Cornstarch
- 1 Egg
Ingredients for Main Dish
- 1 cup (165 grams) Pineapple Chunks
- 1 cup (150 grams) Green Pepper-- diced
- 1 lb (455 grams) Chicken or Pork-- 1/2" cubes
Steps
- Make the sweet and sour sauce. Combine water and sugar. Heat until sugar is dissolved.
- Add ketchup and pineapple juice, bring to a full boil.
- Thicken with corn starch. Mix in small amount of corn starch and water.
- Make thick (so adding vinegar will not become too thin).
- Add vinegar. Do not boil after adding vinegar.
- Set aside.
- Add pineapple chunks and green pepper just before serving.
- Prepare the pork or chicken.
- Mix batter ingredients in sufficient proportion to cover pork on all sides.
- Add {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} cubed, fat-free meat in bowl when meat is completely covered in sauce, then place individual pieces into deep fat fryer.
- Fry to a light brown color. Cover with sweet & sour sauce.
- Add pineapple & green pepper chunks.
- Serve over white rice.
Tips
- Adjust cornstarch - less for softer coating, more for crisper.
- Old cooking oil will make batter very puffy. Use fresh peanut oil.
- For a unique dish, add one cup onions cut into large chunks just before serving.
- Let the pork simmer in water, then add the sauce. This gives it a homemade look.
- Add crunch to the dish with a can of sliced water chestnuts.
