Make Different Kinds of Smoothies

It's quite simple to make different kinds of smoothies. They are delicious and healthy. It takes a lot of experimenting, but here are a few ideas.

Steps

  1. Place about a 1/2 cup of ice in the blender.
  2. Decide which kind of fruit you want to use in your smoothie, and prepare them by peeling, cutting, removing seeds, etc.
  3. Combine different kinds of fruit, such as: banana and strawberry, kiwi and strawberry, orange and apple, apple and banana, etc. Use your imagination and mix what sounds best to you!
  4. Add fruit juice to enhance the flavor, such as grape juice or grapefruit juice, apple juice, etc. What separates a smoothie from just a glass of juice is that it is mixed with something that thickens it into a shake-like consistency. You have several options for this thickener: yogurt, sherbet, sorbet, ice cream, gelato, and ice all work. You might have noticed that some of those options are healthier than others, and you'll have to decide whether you want to optimize for flavor or nutrition in your smoothie.
  5. Don't forget milk.
  6. Blend.
  7. Serve and enjoy!

Tips

  • Be sure to cut up the fruit first, so you're not eating seeds or anything besides the fruit.
  • Consider using frozen fruit in your smoothie. Frozen fruit adds an icy consistency that thickens the smoothie. Some frozen fruit (like strawberries) may have a lot of sugar added. You can also take fresh fruit, and freeze it ahead of time in preparation for making your smoothie.
  • You can always add whey powder! (extra protein!)
  • For an even more nutritious smoothie, add non-fat frozen yogurt or non-fat ice cream.
  • Try a piña colada smoothie with coconut and pineapple.
  • Make sure you blend it properly so you don't have many chunks.

Warnings

  • Always wash fruit before using.
  • Not everyone will like the same types quantities of fruit... it's often better to invent your own recipe than to use someone else's (like one you found on the internet)
  • Takes a few tries to get ingredients correct and in the right proportion according to your own taste
  • Can be quite time consuming... but is usually worth it!
