Make Japanese Rice Cake
Dango is a traditional Japanese sweet, and you can make it with patience and the right equipment.
Ingredients
- Dango flour (oshinko):100g
- Hot water:100cc
- Bamboo skewers:5
- White sugar:20g
- Mixing bowl
- Spatula for mixing the dough
- Deep cooking pot
- Pan
- Soy sauce:tablespoon 2
- White sugar:tablespoon 4
- Water:100cc
- Corn starch: suitable quantity
Steps
- Put hot water and flour in the mixing bowl.
- Mix those together.
- Add food coloring, if desired.
- Start to make a small ball (about 1 inch for each)
- Put those balls into the boiling water.
- After a few minutes, the balls will float. Then wait for 2 or 3 minutes more.
- Take the balls and put into cold water.
- Put the balls on paper towels to take water .
- Start to make the Mitarashi sauce next.
- Take up sugar by using the pan.
- Add soy sauce, water, and corn starch with the sugar.
- Put the three rice cakes on bamboo stick.
- Put the sauces on the rice cakes
- Finished.
Tips
- You do not have to make Mitarashi sauce. You can also put bean paste on top of the dangos.
Warnings
- Be careful when you are boiling the balls (rice cakes). If you take too much time, it will be too hard. And if you do not take enough time, it will be too soft.
