Make a Naval Warfare Travel Game
Battleship used to be a game played on a paper form. We recreate the game as a laminated card. A dry erase pen allows players to mark the position of their ships and plot shots. Great for travel.
Steps
- Open a graphics program such as MS Paint and size the window to {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} by {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}}.
- In the upper section, create a 10 x 10 square grid with dark grey lines. Try to leave an inch of space along the sides.
- Label the rows on the left side of the grid A through J.
- Label the columns on the top of the grid 1-10.
- Copy the grid.
- Scroll to the bottom and paste in a second grid.
- Between the two grids, add a text box.
- Type the following into the text box:
Aircraft Carrier - 5 squares
Battleship 4 squares
Destroyer 3 squares
Frigate 2 squares
Submarine 2 squares. - Ensure everything is positioned neatly
- Label the top section "Attack Grid" and the bottom section "Defense Grid"
- Print two (2) copies on one piece of cardstock in landscape mode.
- Separate the two game boards and have them laminated.
- Add two dry erase markers.
Tips
- When building the grid, it's easier to start with a good size square, then copy and paste another on the end until you have a row of ten. Then copy the row and paste a new row onto the bottom
- Punch a hole in one corner of each laminated card and use a binder ring to keep them together. You can also thread a pencil case on to the binder ring to hold the dry erase markers.
- You'll have more control over placement of grid boxes, letters and numbers if you zoom in
