Make a Ribbon Bow from a Plastic Straw
Using only one straw, you can make a pretty bow (or ribbon) suitable for adding to crafts, accessories, and gifts. Follow the instructions to make your own little straw-based bow.
Steps
- Cut the straw into three parts, as shown in the picture.
- Cut open the {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} (3.3") piece (as indicated in the earlier image).
- Fold the cut piece in half.
- Cut a diamond style shape in the center of this piece, as shown in the picture. Click on the image to enlarge, if needed.
- Cut open the part of the straw that has the flexible or concertina piece.
- Stroke down on the end with the back tip of a teaspoon. Do this until it sits flat.
- Fold this piece in half.
- Cut the center in a mountain shape, as shown in the picture.
- Create the little ring or loop that sits around the longer parts of the bow. Cut a small ring from an intact piece of straw; this will be used to slip over the longer pieces and hold them together.
- Place the layers together as shown in the picture.
- Add the loop or ring.
- Thread the loop over both pieces.
- Push it until it reaches the center.
- Bend the straw part that has the flexible or concertina piece.
- Create the bow shape.
- Loop one side of the 8.5cm (3.3") piece and tuck it into the loop or ring.
- Repeat with the remaining side.
- The ribbon or bow is made.
- Check that the bow is sitting evenly. Make any adjustments needed.
- Cut it any length you like. Trim fancy ends if wished.
Tips
