Mix a Gallon of Gas for a Two Stroke Engine
Most two stroke engines in dirt bikes, snowmobiles, dirt bikes and chain saws require a premixed combination of gasoline and two cycle oil. The gasoline powers the engine while the oil lubricates the cylinder walls and reduces friction which keeps the engine going. Therefore, a proper mix of the two components is crucial in the performance and longevity of the engine.
Steps
- Pump one gallon of gasoline into a gas can.
- Measure out the proper amount of two cycle oil in the Ratio Rite.
- Pour the required amount of oil into the gas can with the gasoline.
- Shake the container lightly until all of the oil is thoroughly mixed in with the gasoline.
- Pour the mixture into the machine`s gas tank.
- Alternate steps -
- Pour the required amount of oil into a gas can
- Pump one gallon of gasoline into the gas can with the oil
- - You're finished, pumping mixes gas and oil
Tips
- 50:1(gasoline:oil) ratio requires 2.6 ounces of oil.
- 40:1(gasoline:oil) ratio requires 3 ounces of oil.
- 100:1(gasoline:oil) ratio requires 1.3 ounces of oil.
- 32:1(gasoline:oil) ratio requires 4 ounces of oil.
- Thoroughly mixed gasoline will have no light or dark areas and will have even shading throughout.
- BEFORE USING THIS CHART - MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING THE RIGHT SIZE GALLON - US or IMPERIAL. To find out how much gas is really needed, you should simply use the equation G times 128 divided by M. G = gallons you have(i.e. i have 20 gallons and M = ratio number(i.e. 40:1 40 would be used).
- 20:1(gasoline:oil) ratio requires 6 ounces of oil.
- Be sure all of the caps and nozzles are secured on the gas can before shaking.
- 70:1(gasoline:oil) ratio requires 1.8 ounces of oil.
- Use a gas can that holds more than one gallon of gasoline because the added oil could cause an overflow in a one gallon can.
Warnings
- US GALLONS ARE A DIFFERENT SIZE TO IMPERIAL ONES
- Always work with gasoline in a well ventilated area.
- Never work with gasoline near open flames.
Things You'll Need
- One gallon of gasoline (REMEMBER US AND IMPERIAL GALLONS ARE OF DIFFERENT SIZES)
- Six ounces (or less) of two cycle oil
- Gas can
- Ratio Rite (used to measure out the correct amount of oil)
