Prepare a Vada Pav
Vada Pav also spelled Wada Pav and pronounced WUH-daahh POW is a snack loved by people in Maharashtra. It is also referred to as "Mumbai's Burger".
Ingredients
(Serves 4)
- 5 potatoes, boiled
- Pav (buns)
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 5-6 green chillies
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1 tsp turmeric
- {{safesubst:#invoke:convert|convert}} of ginger
- 5-6 curry/bay leaves
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- A pinch of asafoetida
- 1½ cup chickpea/gram flour
- ½ tsp sodium bicarbonate (baking soda)
- 2 tsp red chilli powder
- water
- oil for frying
- salt
Steps
- Mash the boiled potatoes and keep aside.
- Grind garlic and green chillies to form a paste.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan, then add curry leaves, mustard seeds, cumin seeds and asafoetida.
- Add the chopped onions and fry until they turn golden brown.
- Add turmeric powder along with the mashed potatoes, chilli paste and mix well.
- Add salt according to taste.
- Cook covered for 5-7 minutes and leave aside to cool.
- Make small balls out of the mixture once it cools down.
- Make a batter by adding water to the chickpea flour. Also, add red chilli powder, turmeric, soda and salt to it.
- Heat oil in a pan. Dip the balls in the batter and slide them into the hot oil.
- Deep/Shallow fry on both sides. Fry on medium flame to cook it evenly.
- Serve hot with pav and green chutney (paste of green chillies and coriander leaves).
Warnings
- Be careful while using kitchen apparatus.
- Don't consume this too often. It contains a high amount of fats.
- Make sure you don't get burnt.
- Parental guidance needed.
- Under cooking of the product may lead to medical problems.
