Survive Seventh Grade

Whether you're heading into the 7th grade this year, or you're about halfway into the year, this article is here to help. Hopefully after reading this you can approach the 7th grade with confidence.

Steps

Social Life

  1. Always be yourself. That is the most important thing you can do to have a good year socially. You are probably thinking Oh, I've heard this hundreds of times... but it doesn't mean you won't do it! Many kids get in huge trouble when they don't act like themselves. Sometimes people think that they can just pretend to be someone they're not; the thing is if you have ever tried that, you will know that if someone finds out that you aren't who you say you are, everyone soon knows, and it's very embarrassing!
  2. Always have a small, close group of best friends. In that close group of friends, you know you will be able to share everything with them. You will know that a silly little fight won't ruin your friendship. Hang with each other through thick and thin. If you need to take a break from them (because of a fight, or you just need some chill time), you have other friends who you can be with. However, this does not mean you have to limit your social life to those people. Keep a few Make Close Friends but have many friends. You may need them later in life.
  3. Don't let your social life ruin your academic life. Too many kids always get too involved with friends at school, and forget the reason why they are at school, to learn! They get in big fights and they start to just think of school as a place for them to mingle.
  4. Don't be too concerned with what other people think of you. If you try too hard to be popular, all of the preppy snobs will just laugh at you, and you might have a tough year.
  5. If you care about what people think, don't change yourself. Take a deep breath and stride into school confidently. Be who you are. Smile, joke, Play, and laugh. More often than not that's what people want. You will be liked.
  6. Have fun! Act Lovably Weird and weird! You only have one life to live. Make the most of every moment you have and be adventurous, happy, and be that person that everyone wants to be around because they're so much fun! Be Inspired! Never let a guy/girl get between you and your best friends. The relationship probably won't last forever, and while it's great right now, it won't be when you break up. Seventh grade is hard! Always remember to take a deep breath, and relax often. Just remember to try not and do things you'll regret later on.

Academic Life

  1. Stay on top of homework. In elementary school, some teachers didn't care if you didn't have your homework that day, and it wouldn't hurt your grade. In seventh grade, it does. A lot. Missing one homework assignment might get you after-school detention, and for most schools missing seven or more will get you into summer school.
  2. Know that teachers will be very strict. Lots of the teachers will not approve of silly behaviour and slacking. Some teachers will even send you to the principal or head teacher without a warning, and that is bad.
  3. Try Your Best at Anything. This is the most important thing you can do in your academic life. If you don't understand something in class, stay after school or during lunch to have the teacher explain it. You may hate this teacher, but when it comes to learning and asking real questions, teachers have a soft heart.
  4. Do your work. This is the most important thing. In elementary school, if you didn't do your work, or you had a D or and F for your grade, you would still move on to the next grade. That doesn't happen anymore. If in any of your classes you have an F, you can bring it up if you try hard. One failure won't keep you back for another year. But if you get an F in most of your classes and don't do anything about it, you might have a problem...
  5. Work together with your classmates. It's so much more fun having a study group to work with!
  6. Aim for an A. Get all the help in school if you don't understand something. Have a Study Session With Friends Just do something to enhance your education if you need help in school.
  7. Try to invite your friends over and study for tests. This is effective since you can have fun and study at the same time!

Tips

  • Eat breakfast everyday. This will give you the energy to work better and increase your grade, as scientists proved.
  • Have all of the supplies you need every hour of the school day. If you are a girl, remember to bring feminine hygiene items in addition.
  • Don't deliberately try to get in trouble. Don't fight with somebody on purpose, and if someone picks a fight with you, walk away. It's not worth the punishment you'll have to deal with afterwards.
  • Being suspended is not a good thing. At the least, you will not be allowed in school for 3 days. Getting a few days off of school may sound great, but in reality it's not. The principal will tell your parents what you did to get yourself suspended, and your parents might ground you at home.
  • Try to care about how you look. It's more important who you are inside, of course, but it helps you be more liked. Practice hygiene, exercise, dress well, and eat right.
  • Don't be silly in class. Teachers hate this, and many will take points off of your grade for it.
  • Make friends with the 6th and 8th graders; the more people you know, the more likely you will be popular or known, so if you lost friends you'll always have people to go to!
  • Don't be embarrassed if something happens to you. Laugh it off! If you learn to laugh at yourself, you will laugh more often.
  • Be yourself and don't let anyone let you down because they don't matter be yourself because you are you.
  • Take notes for tests and quizzes.
  • Make sure to respect the staff. Not only will this keep you out of detention, but it could help with your grades too.
  • Don't let a bully bully you, let others and a teacher know.
  • Don't get to caught up in your love life. Your grades are more important and the relation ship might not last anyway.
  • Don't act like one of those kids who cheats on tests, talks while the teacher's talking, make's rude noises during class, and plays instead of works. It can get on many people's nerves, and may cause people to dislike, or a stronger word hate, you.
  • You shouldn't focus on getting a boyfriend or girlfriend just yet. Instead, focus on your grades and friends.
  • Don't get in with the wrong group. The people you hang out with shall affect you a lot.

Warnings

  • You may get rejected by people. This is normal, but don't worry. It happens to everyone sometimes.
  • Avoid drugs, alcohol, and other risky behavior as it can lead to very serious implications both now and in the future, especially because you are still developing.
  • Do try new things, as long as they are not illegal or bad for your health, of course!
  • Don't kiss or get into serious relationships if you aren't ready or allowed. You can get in big trouble for that, because a lot of schools now have a PDA rule (Public displays of Affection rule) in which you could get detention for even hugging a friend. Also, if you aren't allowed to date, your parents could easily find out about it and you would be in big trouble.
  • Remember your place. You aren't any better or and worse than the other kids in your class. Treat others equally and with respect, even if they don't return the favor!
  • If you're having a party and you're not inviting everyone in your grade, keep it quiet. It may hurt peoples' feelings if they aren't invited.
