Tip a Valet

Valet drivers expect tips. Tips are not mandatory, but if you want service with a smile, tip as big as you can.

Steps

  1. Treat your valet driver as an equal. Look at him, smile, and say hello at least. Thank him, too. It helps everyone to be nice and polite.
  2. Be patient while waiting on your vehicle. Your valet is probably running to get it.
  3. Never tip less than a dollar. $3 or $4 is better: He or she is probably existing on tips. At a casino, you really should tip at least $5 because, after all, you obviously have cash to spare. Winners there will tip a valet driver $100 sometimes. And if you're a repeat customer, they will give you the extra special service; it's just human nature to do so.
  4. Usually, you aren't required to tip, but if you can't, if possible, park in regular parking and walk in. (I realize at a hospital, for instance, some elderly or injured people cannot do that easily.)

Warnings

  • Never complain or criticize unless you have a large or important issue. Some customers, angry at life in general, bark, "What took you so long?" (Don't expect great service next time from that valet driver; you've just made an enemy.)
