Use a TI 83 Plus Graphing Calculator

While the multitude of buttons may look daunting at first, TI calculators are actually quite easy to use. Follow these instructions for relatively basic operations with the calculator.

Basic Instructions

  1. Press ENTER to find out the answer to an expression.
  2. Press 2ND before pressing a button to use the function in yellow above the button.
  3. Press ALPHA to enter in letters.
  4. Press 2ND before pressing Alpha to turn on Alpha lock, which will automatically use the alpha mode until you press a directional key or ALPHA again.
  5. Press 2ND and then hold up or down to adjust the screen contrast accordingly.

Advanced Instructions

  1. Press MODE to go to a menu that allows to change graphing modes, degree modes, and notation modes among other things.
  2. Enter in a number then press STO> then enter in a letter and hit enter to store values in variables.
  3. Press Y= and enter in a function and then press GRAPH to view it. If you are having trouble viewing it, press WINDOW and adjust the graph's window.
