What was the status of males and females in the Mesopotamian society?

The establishment of families and occupation led to further development of society. The world of city states, such as UR was male dominated. The male member was considered to be the master of the whole house, which included his wife, children and slaves. The women had the right to own property. The boys from wealthier families were sent to the scribes to learn the art of writing, while other children had the only option of carrying on their father's trade.
