What were the occupations and crafts of the people of Mesopotamia?
Mesopotamia had very fertile land where dykes and reservoirs were constructed for irrigation purposes. They grew mainly wheat, barley, vegetables and fruits. The craftsmen like goldsmiths, blacksmiths, weavers etc. were highly talented. They were the first people in the world to issue receipts and bills in business transactions. To encourage trade and commerce, the Mesopotamians invented many coins, weights and measures. Trade showed a remarkable growth after the invention of wheel.
