Who was Hammurabi?

When Ur fell in 2000 B.C., many cities came under the rule of Amorites. The two strong holds of Amorites were Isin and Larsa, but in 1763 B.C. Larsa fell to the great army led by Hammurabi who gave a new name, Babylonia to the kingdoms. of Sumer and Akkad. He brought the whole of Mesopotamia under one rule. The palace now became the most powerful; even more powerful than the temples.
