Work Effectively and Keep Oneself Amidst Diversities

Our present times showed a need for mankind to work together hand-in-hand in unity. Working in unity amidst diversities isn't easy, it's greatly challenging but possible. Despite man's diversity, something must be achieved towards a common goal. Here are five R's with some helpful guidelines that could help each individual who wants to be effective in his work place amidst diversities and yet not to lose oneself:

Steps

  1. Respect that differences are turning points for adjustments and flexibility. Each one who gets to work or lead a group of individuals with different personalities should learn to accept people as they are with respect. One should recognize inclinations, religious beliefs and individual uniqueness.
  2. Reinforce Emotional intelligence: It is "The ability to perceive emotion, integrate emotion to facilitate thought, understand emotions and to regulate emotions to promote personal growth." We practice and observe sensitivity and tact in dealing with others.
  3. Reinstate after stating responsibilities. Define workloads and what is expected as an end result. Workers and employees become self-driven when a goal is set. If possible, it should be written on a whiteboard where everyone could see what is expected of them conspicuously. Provide stick-on notes on individual desks for reminder and details.
  4. Remain cool and calm. Resilience is the key in this. It's the ability to bend and stay flexible in the midst of extreme pressure. Practice tact and sensitivity in people. Scolding in public is embarrassing and degrading, when an individual's rights are respected, you appeal to their hearts and win their loyalty in return.
  5. Regain self and composure more than anything else. Often we pour ourselves so much into the work place that we end up angry, bitter and resentful, affecting even personal relationships with love ones back home . Be a catalyst, love what you do, change the way you look at things and be happy for the opportunity to work with others. Remember, life is what we make of it!
