Carve a Watermelon Airplane
For your Design a Paper Airplane enthusiasts, carve an airplane out of a watermelon, and use it as a centerpiece at your next social. Fill it with salads, lemonade, fruits, or even ice cream. Whatever your choice, this watermelon airplane will be the hit of the party.
Steps
- Select a symmetrical watermelon. If necessary, cut a thin slice from bottom of melon so it will sit level.
- Use a sharp, pointed utensil,and draw outlines as shown. Cut and remove sections A, B and C.
- Cut out the side wings, propeller and tail pieces from section "A"; scoop out flesh leaving just a trace of red; drain watermelon.
- Trim wings and tail pieces to fit watermelon as shown; use shortened skewers to attach wings and tail.
- Use shortened skewers to attach propeller; place grape on end of skewer; place halved kiwifruit for wheels.
- Fill the airplane with any favorite salad, dessert or punch.
- Finished.
Tips
- Carve and use at your child's next birthday party.
- Make Make a Melon, Avocado and Prawn Salad from a variety of melons and other fruits and fill the inside of the airplane with it. Add cherries on top, to give it great color and taste.
