Get a Job Through a Temporary Agency
Sometimes getting a job through a temporary service agency can be difficult. Your resume and application can get lost in the stacks of papers on the recruiter's desk. Follow these steps to make sure that this does not happen to you.

Steps
- Don't just e-mail your resume in. Most agencies post their jobs online. If you are interested, make sure that you call in regards to that specific posting.
- Set up an appointment to meet with the recruiter to talk about that specific position after you call.
- Don't just walk in if you are just interested in using the service not in regards to a specific posting. Make sure that you call to make an appointment, so that the recruiter has plenty of time to sit down and talk with you.
- When you go in for your appointment:
- Make sure that you dress for success.
- Bring a copy of your resume.
- Be polite to all individuals in the office, you never know what they might tell the recruiter about how you treated them.
- Send the recruiter and thank them for the time to sit down with you.
- Call in every Monday so that they remember you, but not any more than that, otherwise it gets annoying.
Tips
- When talking on the phone, try to eliminate background noise so that the recruiter can hear you.
- Always call before walking in to an agency, it will save you time in the long run.
- Always dress professionally when going into the agency.
- When going in for an appointment, make sure that you are on time and leave 2-3 hours for it.
- Be polite to everyone in the office, the recruiter will ask them what their impression was of you.
- When they call, pick up the phone. In many time, the recruiter will just keep calling people until they find someone that picks up and can do it.
- The recruiters will be calling you a lot for assignments, take off the ring back tone, and have a professional voice mail greeting.
- Make sure that you have a professional e-mail. Many agencies will do things by e-mail, so make sure it does not include offensive, sexual, racist words and that it is not a nonsensical bunch of characters and special characters or something like that.
Warnings
- If they don't have a specific job, don't worry, not all jobs will meet your skill set.
- If the agency has no jobs for you, don't harass them by calling in everyday, that will make them less likely to use you.
- Be honest with the agency. If you're not available for a job, tell them why. If you feel like a job just isn't a good fit, explain your reasons. Let the agency work on your behalf as their employee instead of being at cross-purposes with you, and you'll both fare better in the long run.
