Make Cabbage Curry in Andhra Style

Cabbage curry prepared in the Andhra Pradesh style is a delicious dish for those who love cabbage. It is a very healthy, wholesome curry that is extremely easy to prepare.

Ingredients

  • 500 grams chopped cabbage
  • 100 grams grated fresh coconut
  • 100 grams Bengal gram
  • 4 to 5 whole and dried red chilies
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon white lentils
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 cups water
  • 2 teaspoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder

Steps

Preparing the Sliced Cabbage

  1. Add chopped cabbage to a large pot or saucepan.
  2. Wash the sliced cabbage under running water. Then drain and add fresh water. Once done, bring the the water to a boil.
  3. Add the Bengal gram. Add salt after 5 more minutes of cooking.
  4. Mix together well.
  5. Cover the cooked cabbage and gram with a lid or plate after 10 minutes.
  6. Drain the stock water. Hold the pot or pan with a cloth, or use a pair of tongs.

Frying the Cabbage

  1. Add oil to a large frying pan.
  2. Add red chilies, cumin seeds, mustard seeds and white lentils. Sauté them for a few minutes.
  3. Add the boiled cabbage mixture.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Add turmeric powder.
  6. Mix well.
  7. Sprinkle the grated fresh coconut over the dish.
  8. Mix well.
  9. Serve the cabbage curry with rice or rotis.

Warnings

  • Be careful while the cabbage is boiling, as it might spill out of the pot or pan. Keep stirring frequently.
