Make Cabbage Curry in Andhra Style

Ingredients
- 500 grams chopped cabbage
- 100 grams grated fresh coconut
- 100 grams Bengal gram
- 4 to 5 whole and dried red chilies
- 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon white lentils
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 4 cups water
- 2 teaspoons oil
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
Steps
Preparing the Sliced Cabbage
- Add chopped cabbage to a large pot or saucepan.
- Wash the sliced cabbage under running water. Then drain and add fresh water. Once done, bring the the water to a boil.
- Add the Bengal gram. Add salt after 5 more minutes of cooking.
- Mix together well.
- Cover the cooked cabbage and gram with a lid or plate after 10 minutes.
- Drain the stock water. Hold the pot or pan with a cloth, or use a pair of tongs.
Frying the Cabbage
- Add oil to a large frying pan.
- Add red chilies, cumin seeds, mustard seeds and white lentils. Sauté them for a few minutes.
- Add the boiled cabbage mixture.
- Mix well.
- Add turmeric powder.
- Mix well.
- Sprinkle the grated fresh coconut over the dish.
- Mix well.
- Serve the cabbage curry with rice or rotis.
Warnings
- Be careful while the cabbage is boiling, as it might spill out of the pot or pan. Keep stirring frequently.
