Make Mango Shakes

When you're looking to beat the summer heat, you'll usually find that mangoes are in season. Grab some mangoes at the market and add milk or soy milk, ice and a bit of sugar or ice cream to make a simple and delicious shake.

Ingredients

Basic Mango Shake

Servings: 10

  • 30 small ripe mangoes or 20 cups mango puree
  • 10 cups of milk or soy milk
  • 10 ice cubes
  • 10 scoops of vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt (optional)
  • Sugar to taste (optional)

Strawberry Mango Shake

Servings: 10

  • 10 cups of strawberries, halved
  • 5 1/2 cups of mango, chopped or 5 1/2 cups of mango puree
  • 10 scoops of vanilla ice-cream
  • 20 tablespoons milk

Banana and Mango Shake

Servings: 1

  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1/2 mango, peeled and chopped or 1/2 cup mango puree
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 2 teaspoons lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar or caster sugar
  • 2 scoops vanilla ice cream or frozen yogurt

Steps

Basic Mango Shake

  1. Peel the mangoes and cut them into 1" (2.5 cm) chunks using a paring knife. Place the mango pieces into a blender or, if you're using puree, just pour the puree into the blender. Blend the fruit until it has a smooth texture.
  2. Add the milk or soy milk. Turn the blender on and gradually add ice cubes, ice cream or frozen yogurt until you achieve the thickness that you want.
  3. Taste the mango shake for sweetness. Add sugar if needed, 1 tablespoon at a time, and blend the shake to distribute the sugar.
  4. Pour the finished mango shake into a serving glass.
  5. Serve the shake. You can garnish your shake with fresh mango slices, if desired. [1]

Strawberry Mango Shake

  1. Place the strawberries and mangoes into your blender.
  2. Add the ice cream.
  3. Blend all of the ingredients until they are smooth. Add the milk 1 tablespoon at a time, blending it after each addition, until your shake is the right thickness.
  4. Pour the shake into a glass and serve it.[2]

Banana and Mango Shake

  1. Place the banana and the chopped mango or mango puree into the blender.
  2. Add the milk, orange juice, lime juice, sugar and ice cream or yogurt.
  3. Blend everything until the shake looks frothy and well-mixed.
  4. Pour the shake into a glass. Serve it with a lime wedge or decorate it with a paper umbrella.[3]

Tips

  • You could just add some ice instead of ice cream.
  • You can combine any fruit with the mango for a variation on this recipe. Try pomegranate or guava to introduce some new flavor.
  • To make the flavor more spicy, add cardamom to a shake. Just add 1/4 teaspoon at a time because, with cardamom, a little goes a long way.
