Make a Pulpy Fruit Smoothie

Smoothie drinks are great for breakfast, lunch, or a nutritious snack. If you want to know the secret to making a great smoothie, it is pulpy fruit. If you like bland, boring smoothies, then stop reading here because you may get too much good information by mistake.

Steps

  1. Buy some Make the Quad Smoothie. Using pulpy fruit avoids having to use ice as filler, and adds a superior level of smooth to the smoothie. Pulpy and fibrous fruits like orange and apple make a better base for the juice.
  2. If you buy fresh fruit, cut the fruit into small pieces, and freeze in a plastic bag or freezer-proof container.
  3. Buy or press some juice. Orange juice, apple juice, and similar freshly-pressed juice work the best, but any juice will do, even soy milk or water based juice.
  4. Take desired mix of fruit and put into a blender. Get creative, and try different combinations of different kinds of juice.
  5. Fill the blender with enough juice to just cover the fruit.
  6. Cover the blender, unless you want more of your creation to end up on the walls than your glass!
  7. Pulse the blender a few times to chop the fruit (Use the "ice chop" feature on the blender if it has one).
  8. Mix for 1-2 minutes on the "High Blend" setting until the contents are smooth and there are no visible chunks swirling around.
    • If you prefer a thinner smoothie, add a little more juice and blend it in well.
  9. Pour into a tall glass.
  10. Drink and enjoy!

Tips

  • Make sure your blender container is super-clean. Fruit goes bad very quickly if left hiding in any little corners of your equipment.
  • For ultra-healthy folks, add your daily vitamins (crushed into a powder), flax seed oil, vitamin c, or protein powders. Or add a little tofu (preferably silken tofu)
  • Experiment!
  • Bananas can help thicken your smoothie.
  • If you feel like getting a little crazy, add some rum, vodka or other spirits - but only if you're old enough to legally drink!
  • Keep It Simple... As with any food dish or drink, too many flavors can be confusing to the palate.
  • You can add some vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, and kale to your smoothie. You won't taste the vegetables as the flavor of the fruit is stronger.
  • Put a pinch of Wheat Germ in your smoothie for good health.
  • Get creative with your fruits! Try a mango/banana/strawberry/peach smoothie with O.J. and a splash of apple cider.

Warnings

  • Although nutritious, protein powders can make even the best smoothie taste a bit chalky.
  • Don't suddenly increase your daily fruit intake by drinking smoothies all day - your digestive system will have something to say about it!
  • Using additional ice, ice cream, or yogurt may taste great, but are not part of a "true" fruit smoothie - they may also add unwanted calories and fat to your otherwise healthy beverage.
  • Never drink an alcoholic smoothie if you plan on driving anywhere or operating heavy machinery.
