With Ice Cream
Makes 4 to 6 servings.
- 1 pint of strawberries
- 2 bananas
- 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream
- Sugar
- Ice cubes
- Yogurt (optional)
- Milk (optional) if you add milk the texture is more liquid
Without Ice Cream
Makes 1 serving (can be adapted for more)
- 1/2 cup of frozen chopped bananas
- 1/2 cup of frozen strawberries
- 1/8 cup of sugar
- 1/2 cup of milk
Steps
Making a Smoothie with Ice Cream
- Put the cups in the refrigerator, if desired. This will keep them nice and cool until you drink your smoothie.
- Wash the strawberries, and cut the leaves off.
- Remove the banana peels. Then slice the bananas into two halves.
- Plug in your blender, and put the strawberries and bananas inside. Then add the ice cubes, then add some sugar. Note: If you'd like to keep the original tangy taste of the strawberries, don't add as much sugar. Remember, there is such thing as natural sugar!
- Add four scoops of vanilla ice cream.
- If you want, add yogurt. It can be strawberry, banana, vanilla, or both strawberry and banana flavored.
- Put the lid on the blender and turn it on. Let it blend a while until the contents look nice and smooth, not chunky. To make sure, turn off the blender, take the lid off and stir it with a spoon.
- Pour into glasses and have a smoothie!
Making a Smoothie without Ice Cream
- Freeze the bananas and strawberries, if they're fresh. If you buy frozen ones from the get-go, skip this step.
- Cut them in to smaller pieces. They need to be able to fit in your blender and blend easily.
- Measure 1/8 cup of sugar and 1/2 cup of milk. Combine them with the fruit in your blender. If necessary, add more sugar or milk to get your preferred taste/consistency.
- Blend to your desired consistency. The longer you blend, the more liquid it becomes. Try pausing for a little in between blending bursts, to mix up the smoothie and check its consistency.
- Enjoy! If the mixture gets too liquid for you, you can try putting it back in the freezer for a few minutes, or blending in more frozen fruits to thicken it up.
Tips
- If you don't have a strong blender, mash the banana a little so it's easier to blend.
- Try putting some coconut milk in the smoothie.
- If it's not thick enough, add more ice cubes, or next time use less milk.
- If honey didn't work for sweetness, simply try another spoonful of sugar.
- Try using yogurt instead of ice cream for a healthier option.
- If the smoothie is too thick to pour, add an ounce of water or milk and blend for an extra few seconds.
- If you like it really sweet, try adding a tablespoon of honey before blending.
- If it won't blend, add some water or mix the contents around in the blender with a spoon.
- Add a bit of cinnamon.
- Try adding dates for sweetness.
Warnings
- Don't forget to put the lid on the blender!
- Ensure adult supervision for young children.
