Make a Duct Tape Viking Hat

Duct tape can be used to make many exciting things, and modify old things. In this case, the exciting thing is a viking hat. If you like duct tape, and you like vikings, this project is for you!

Steps

  1. Get a t-shirt that you are allowed to cut and your desired color of duct tape. Take the t-shirt and drape it over your head. Take a long strip of duct tape and wrap it around the outside of the shirt where you want the bottom of your hat to be.(Middle of the forehead works best.)
  2. Take the shirt off and cut off the extra cloth below your duct tape line. Now you have the perfect fit for your personal viking hat.
  3. Completely cover the cloth with several duct tape strips. Do this by taking strips of the duct tape and sticking it longways across the hat. Cut off the excess. Stuff the hat with a towel to keep its shape and make it easier to cover with duct tape.
  4. Remove the towel you stuffed into the hat.
  5. Make horns for your viking hat. Cut two long pieces of duct tape that are the length you want the horns. Fold each in half cross-wise, leaving one end unstuck/exposed. This exposed portion will be used to add the horn to the hat.
    • Contrary to popular belief, Vikings never wore horns on their hats. If you want to put horns on it, follow the steps below. If not, stop here.
  6. Cut out a horn shape. Any shape you want, big or small, will do. Try curving the ends, or just make a straight point. Get creative!
  7. Take the part that you left sticky and press it onto the side of your hat. Secure with another piece of duct tape as necessary.
  8. Repeat the attaching process for the second horn.
  9. Finished! Go out in your longboat and strut your stuff, or go fight with other vikings! Show your friends! Maybe they will want one too!

Tips

  • If you have trouble tearing the duct tape with your hands, hold the loose end in one hand and tear with your teeth.
  • Don't limit yourself to gray duct tape! Try something new, like green or lime green! And it'll still be a viking hat regardless of color!
  • Any kind of sticker will stick on duct tape. You can add stickers or draw on your viking hat with a black sharpie.

Things You'll Need

  • An old t-shirt or some other kind of cloth you can cut up.
  • Duct tape in the color of your choice.
