Put Photos on an iPod Video
Any iPod with a color display can display photographs, and the 5th Generation iPod Video is no exception. In this wikiHow we'll show you how to get your photographs into your iPod using iPhoto on a Macintosh.
Steps
- Plug in and configure your iPod. Be sure you are using an iPod that can store and display photographs.
- Decide which photos you will store on the iPod. You can sync from iPhoto, from a folder on your computer, or from some other software.
- For iPhoto create a new Album of the photos you will want on your iPod.
- Make sure you are using iTunes 4.0.3 or later, download the latest version if you are not sure.
- Plug in your iPod using the USB cable.
- Open iTunes if it is not already open.
- Observe as the iPod management screen appears in iTunes. This allows us to use iTunes as a conduit to sync a variety of media into your iPod. If the screen does not appear make sure you have your iPod selected on the left, under Devices.
- Click the Photos tab.
- Use the selector or drop down menu to choose to sync photos from a folder or from iPhoto.
- Choosing Choose folder... will give you a find window allowing you to browse your hard disk for the photographs you want to sync.
- Choosing from iPhoto causes iTunes to look into iPhoto and display your albums. Any albums you have created in iPhoto will be shown with checkboxes next to each.
- Check the box next to the album or albums you wish to sync. iTunes moves photographs to your iPod ion the other they are selected and will continue to do so until your disk is full.
- Click and hold an Album name to move it up or down, changing the synchronization order.
- Choose Include full-resolution photos if you want to use your iPod as a storage or transport device.
- Click Apply at the bottom right of the screen.
- Wait as the iPod goes though a full synchronization, optimizing and converting your photographs on the fly. Do not disconnect the iPod during the synchronization process.
Tips
- Be sure you are using a compatible file format for your images:
- On Mac-based iPods you can view:
- JPEG
- TIFF
- JPG 2000
- GIF
- PICT
- PNG
- SGI
- BMP
- On a Windows-based iPod, you can view:
- JPEG
- TIFF
- GIF
- PNG
- BMP
- On a Mac, you can sync from iPhoto 4.0.3.
- On windows you can sync from:
- Adobe Photoshop Album 2.0 or later
- Adobe Photoshop Elements 3.0 or later
- Photographs are automatically resized to save space and display optimally on the iPod screen. You cannot see full resolution photographs on your iPod screen, they tend to be very large files, but you can use your iPod to transfer them. To access these photographs you will need to put your iPod into disk mode.
Warnings
- Always be aware of how much disk space you have available on your iPod. Photographs can use a lot of space. A bar at the bottom of your iPod management screen shows how much space you have used, and how much remains.
