Attract a Tomboy
Attracting the average girl seems to be a skill known by many, but how do you attract a girl who is determined to remain just one of the guys? For starters, by being yourself but you can increase the odds by showing an interest in the things she finds interesting, and being respectful of the choices she has made.
Steps
Showing an interest
- Learn about what her interests are and start getting interested in them. Naturally, don't change yourself; just try to see if some of those interests enthuse you and adjust a little.
- Play sports with her or hang out with her. Do this progressively, so as not to freak her out with your sudden interest in her sporting activities.
- Ask her about some sports and video games, riding bikes and outdoor activities. Try some things she does and see if you like the game or the sport or activity.
- Find out some funny jokes. Most girls love funny guys, even if they are tomboys. Even if it's bad puns, be funny. It's vital.
- Leave the clothing compliments aside. It is not really a good idea to compliment a tomboy on her outfit. The chances are that she became a tomboy to avoid the whole girly-girl cutesy thing.
Flirting with her
- Make sure she is available before making your move on her. Girls (and tomboys) don't like guys hitting on them when they have a boyfriend already.
- Slowly but confidently start flirting with her. Do this in a way that isn't that noticeable and more by way of mate-ship. If you persevere and keep it casual but kind, after a time, she will start to find herself liking you.
- Show affection. Talk to her as much as possible. Joke around.
- Build things up. After awhile, if she shows signs that she likes you too then you can turn up the flirting a notch. Don't play too easy though; then she won't feel that she is powerful, and most girls like thinking they have a sense of power over love. Love should be shared, not be a power struggle.
- Make physical contact. Hold her hand and look them in the eye and say something funny, then smile. It's often the way that tomboys make friends and it gets easier for you both if the guy puts his hand on her shoulder or just tries to grab her hair.
- Be patient. If she is the confident tomboy many tomboys are, then she might either ask you out or tell you she likes you. If she doesn't do this, then ask her out.
- Ask her out to a place where a tomboy would go. For example, a baseball game or a Minecraft night. Most definitely don't ask to go to the mall or a restaurant that requires anything fancy, since tomboys would show up in jeans anyway.
Tips
- Be the same guy when you go out. Girls don't like guys changing once they're in a relationship with them.
- Don't be surprised or offended if she plays for the other team, but also never assume a girl is a lesbian because she is a tomboy.
- There is no blanket statement on how to flirt with a tomboy; some tomboys just want to be bros and that how they want their relationships to be. Others may be flattered if you look past the jersey and loud jokes to acknowledge the femininity inside her.
- Remember that no matter how strong the tomboy-ness is, she is still a girl. And girls like attention.
- Try to get to know her better. For example: try to find out what she likes to do and what she doesn't like.
Warnings
- Take care with the compliments; make sure she enjoys compliments before piling them on.
- Keep the flirting chilled at first, so as not to overwhelm her.
- Don't change who you are once you start going steady.
- Make sure she is receptive to being in a romantic relationship.
- Don't be too easy to get. Tomboys find that the best part of liking a guy is the chase. If you shower her, she will lose interest and find another guy.
- Some tomboys aren't really interested in relationships.
