Catwalk on a Bike
Ever want to impress your friends with your skills and balance by doing a wheelie? Although difficult to master, catwalks are very exciting and demonstrate mastery over a bike. Catwalks involve lifting the front wheel of a bicycle and pedaling.
Steps
- Ride the bike at a slow pace.
- Stand up and center your weight over the handlebars.
- Push down on the handlebars and then quickly pull up the front end of the bicycle. Pull up on the handle bars while pedaling faster to keep yourself from falling forward.
- Tap your brakes if you are going too fast.
- Lean back and pedal furiously as you lift the handlebars to the peak of the catwalk while still standing.
- Maintain the catwalk by adjusting your speed and your balance.
- Lean forward and land the trick.
- Ride away smoothly.
- Finished.
Tips
- This trick takes time and practice. Keep at it!
- If you begin to fall of the back of your bike, light press on your rear brake to level out.
- Don't give up if you aren't successful right away.
- Pull up evenly on both handlebars or the wheel will turn, disrupting the catwalk.
- Turn your front wheel to the side opposite of which you're leaning in order to correct it to some degree.
- When attempting this trick for the first time, do it while going up a small hill, as it will keep your speed in check.
- Lighter bicycles are easier to lift.
- Once you get better, you can start out in a harder gear which makes you go a lot farther.
- Catwalks are harder to do on mountain bikes because they're heavier.
- If you're falling forward, pedal harder. If you're falling backward, tap the back brakes.
