Draw Ocean Waves

Throwing a party with an under the sea theme? Trying to draw a background for a dolphin or mermaid? You've come to the right place--in this tutorial you will learn how to draw different kinds of ocean waves.

Steps

Stylized Waves

  1. Draw two parallel lines and one circle. The lines should create a "road" that the circle is at one end of.
  2. Draw curved lines that intersect the parallel lines.
  3. Add curled lines roughly corresponding with the curved lines. The curled lines should be around the ends facing the circle.
  4. Connect the lines to create pointy tongues of water that curve up and around the circle.
  5. Add drops around the image.
  6. Erase excess lines.
  7. Color the drawing. Use many nuances of blue.

Alternate Method

  1. Draw two lines. The first one should be almost straight, but the one on the right should have some more curve to it.
  2. Add three curved lines. These will become the tops of waves.
  3. Draw three lines on the right wave to represent the current. Draw a line on the left wave to continue the top of the wave.
  4. Add more lines to represent the current. On top of the waves, draw squiggle lines for whitecaps.
  5. Add shading if desired.
  6. Erase unnecessary guidelines.
  7. Color the drawing.
