Draw a Celtic Knot
The complexity that makes Celtic knots so appealing is also what makes them difficult to draw. These stylized knots adapted by ancient Celts consist of a single line that traces an endless path over and under itself. If you approach the knot piece by piece, however, you can create your own unique Celtic knot.
Steps
- You will need to practice drawing these 3 parts to create a Celtic knot design.
- Start by drawing a combination of the three parts as shown in the image.
- Draw the same combination rotated 45 degrees counterclockwise.
- Using the same angle, draw the second and third part only to add to the pattern.
- Add another set of the three part combination but rotated 90 degrees counterclockwise.
- Repeat the entire pattern you just drew upside down for the bottom part of the pattern.
- Draw the straight line part of the set to complete the Celtic knot design.
- Add color.
Tips
- The splittings can go anywhere! Remember though that the edges are automatic splittings. Put them where you want them; symmetrical splittings look better, but it's your choice.
- There is no limit to the size of the knot. Just remember to get the number of dots right.
